You are welcome to join us in person or online for worship or for our programs offered at different times during the year. Thanks to Neil Bergman, retired minister, for contributing the history on the church.
The Disciples of Christ have had a history in Halifax as early as 1831. When the vision came to build a congregation in Dartmouth there were members from the North Street Christian Church in Halifax and the West Gore Disciple Church in Hants County. Also members came from the two Queens County Churches (Milton and Summerville) and South Range Christian Church in Digby County. Wyndholme dedicated their building constructed on the top of Silver’s Hill in 1958.
The building opened at just the right time and many families in the community responded so that a Sunday school of over 100 crowded into the facility. Several of them became campers at Johnston Christian Park, the Disciple Camp near South Range. Many more were involved in very active youth groups organized at Wyndholme throughout the year. Members of Wyndholme were leaders in Scouting and Guiding as well.
The ministry has continued to transform and adapt to changing demographics. The building on the corner of Wyndholme and Joffre street was sold and after a couple of years took a lease in the present location in Evergreen Place. The congregation continues to offer programing and worship from this location.
Our story changes as we change and grow, called by Jesus Christ, and listening to the voice of the Spirit in our new directions. We remember and appreciate our history as a church and move towards the future. We follow a new path toward growth and hope. Will you will join us in our witness to God in the world?
In the spirit of Jesus, we embrace all people as gifts from God, including our 2SLBGTQQ+ sisters and brothers. You are welcome here. We we welcome you to be with us as a church, without judgment and with a warm embrace, just as you are. On our new sign out front we share that welcome with our rainbow heart to let people know this is a safe place to be. We are doing this to communicate our acceptance and celebration of all peoples and our intention to love as Jesus loved, in an all embracing way. The colours embrace all peoples, including 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples and brown and black have been added to also signal the importance of intentional welcome of BIPOC peoples - Black, Indigneous and People of Colour.
Our belief...
As members of the Christian Church,
We confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.
In Christ’s name and by his grace we accept our mission of witness and service to all people.
We rejoice in God, maker of heaven and earth, and in God’s covenant of love
which binds us to God and to one another.
Through baptism into Christ we enter into newness of life and are made one with the whole people of God.
In the communion of the Holy Spirit we are joined together in discipleship and in obedience to Christ.
At the Table of the Lord we celebrate with thanksgiving the saving acts and presence of Christ.
Within the universal church we receive the gift of ministry and the light of scripture.
In the bonds of Christian faith we yield ourselves to God that we may serve the One whose kingdom has no end.
Blessing, glory, and honor be to God forever. Amen.
